20 Nov 2008, Gila National Forest, NM
Today was probably the most beautiful day of the trip. The Gila National Forest & Wilderness are simply stunning. I had one minor climb—ironically it was the Great Divide—and one major climb to get to the Gila Cliff Dwellings. This time the second climb actually got fairly steep—although not quite Kentucky steep. The descent was a rush of course.
I got to the Cliff Dwellings at 3:45—in time to be the last one through. They were very cool, and the late afternoon sun made the texture of the canyon really cool. The guides were friendly & knowledgeable. As I left, one guy—Dave—told me about a spot where I can get a geothermally-heated shower in the AM :).
Pat sent me off with a bag of cookies today. Very yummy :).
